HUNGRY KIDS CAN'T LEARN

Hunger and malnutrition are killing nearly six million children each year – a figure that roughly equals the entire pre-school population of a large country such as Japan. Many of these children die from a handful of treatable infectious diseases including diarrhoea, pneumonia, malaria and measles. They would survive if their bodies and immune systems had not been weakened by hunger and malnutrition.Progress towards reducing the number of hungry people in developing countries by half by 2015 has been very slow and the international community is far from reaching its hunger reduction targets. Around 75 percent of the world’s hungry and poor people live in rural areas in poor countries. These regions are home to the vast majority of the nearly 11 million children who die before reaching the age of five, including 8 million infants; of the 530 000 women who die during pregnancy and childbirth; of the 300 million cases of acute malaria and more than one million malaria deaths each year; and of the 121 million children who do not attend school. Reducing hunger should become the driving force for progress and hope, as improved nutrition fuels better health, increases school attendance, reduces child and maternal mortality, empowers women, and lowers the incidence and mortality rates of HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis

DO YOU GIVE A SHIT?

Two women are seen sitting near cut-outs of people hiding behind objects to defecate, at the central business district in Singapore. The squeaky clean city-state on Saturday commemorated World Toilet Day with a four-day exhibition, in a bid to generate public awareness that an estimated 2.6 billion people or 42 percent of the world's population do not have adequate sanitation.

FUKITOL

MEDICAL MARVEL

The picture is that of a 21-week-old unborn baby named Samuel Alexander Armas, who is being operated on by a surgeon named Joseph Bruner. The baby was diagnosed with spina bifida and would not survive if removed from his mother's womb. Little Samuel's mother, Julie Armas, is an obstetrics nurse in Atlanta. She knew of Dr. Bruner's remarkable surgical procedure. Practicing at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, he performs these special operations while the baby is still in the womb. During the procedure, the doctor removes the uterus via a C-section and makes a small incision to operate on the baby. As Dr.Bruner completed the surgery on little Samuel, the little guy reached his tiny, but fully developed, hand through the incision and firmly grasped the surgeon's finger...........! ............Dr. Bruner was reported as saying that when his finger was grasped, it was the most emotional moment of his life, and that for an instant during the procedure he was just frozen, totally immobile. The photograph captures this amazing event with perfect clarity.

MINISTRY OF TRUTH

DONALD RUMSFELD: "The battlefield is not Iraq, in a sense. The battlefield's in the media, in this country, in our country and all across the world. The terrorists know they can't win a single battle, they know that the only place they can win is if they can outlast the nations that are willing to invest in trying to help that country become a democracy. And so they're doing… they're very clever. They have media committees, the terrorists do, and they're very good at MANAGING THE NEWS around the world, and is it hurtful? Yes. Are they good at it? Yes. Are they better at it than we are? You betcha, you betcha they are. But are they going to prevail? No, they're not going to prevail."

PEOPLE POWER

People power has usually worked well in Australia. When pushed, Aussies push back. 10,000 people marched the streets of Perth yesterday, to protest against the harsh new Industrial Relations laws John Howard wants to impose on the Australian worker. The laws will be passed, because Howard has control of both houses of parliament, but Kim Beazely (opposition leader) has declared that his first act as our new Prime Minister will be to TEAR UP Howards laws! A certain sweetener for new Labour voters. Pictured here is the "Palace Hotel" a famous landmark saved from developers by people power in a previous campaign. We can take courage in that. When pandoras box is emptied, hope remains. http://www.rightsatwork.com.au

TAUGHT YA!

It's pretty amazing at how hypocritical right wing americans can be. Phosphoric bombs in Fallujah, Rendition to third countries for extraction of information, The philosophy of "the ends justify the means" is disgusting! We (the western world) have become the very evil we suppose to oppose. We are the enemy, we are the bad guys. I can only imagine how the thinking Germans felt when Auschwitz, Belsen and the other camps were revealed. It is mind boggling to hear the Bush supporters trying to justify torture. How many americans must be killed to eradicate this evil cancer from our society? How many non americans will be killed before this nightmare ends?

MAN EVOLVES INTO GOD

HUMAN SURVIVAL.
Space exploration is essential for humanity to survive. Earth has been polluted beyond repair. Climate change is an even greater threat to life than the madman Bush and the PNAC http://www.newamericancentury.org/ ambitions driving USA today. It is too late to reverse the global warming our activities have created. To avoid the same fate as the dinosaurs it is imperative we create an alternative haven for humanity, and perhaps life itself. It is time humanity evolved further. "A small step for a man, a giant leap for mankind" was just the beginning.
